Dunluce Castle, North Antrim Coast

Dunluce Castle, believed to date back to the 14th Century, is located high on the headland of the North Antrim Coast that plunges straight into the north Atlantic Ocean. The castle was constantly fought over and it eventually succumbed to the power of nature when part of it fell into the sea one stormy night in 1639. Shortly afterwards the castle was abandoned. Dunluce Castle is regarded as an inspiration to C S Lewis whilst writing the Chronicles of Narnia and coming up with the idea of Cair Paravel which features at the end of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
